Vienna police today stated that they believed that recent telephoned threats to blow up various buildings in the city, allegedly made by members of a Jewish extremist group, were hoaxes and in no way connected with any Jewish organization.
It became increasingly evident that the threats were intended merely to create disorder in Allied quarters following last night’s telephone call to the police that the American embassy would be blown up. Austrian and American guards were immediately stationed around the threatened building, but were removed before dawn when nothing suspicious was discovered. This was the first time that an American installation was threatened by an anonymous caller.
