Isaac Meisel, a Hebrew journalist and an official in the Palestine Office here, was under arrest today on charges of “insulting the Polish nation.” The charges were preferred against him when he and two women companions, while sitting on a porch, observed anti-Semites beating up Jewish beating up Jewish passersby and shouted at them to cease their cowardly attacks. Anti-Semites neighbors denounced Meisel and his companions to the police, declaring they had used the expression “Polish bandits.”
Meisel, who had been preparing to go to Geneva where he was to help edit the Hebrew daily Zionist Congress bulletin, and his two companions will be held in prison pending their trial. Another Jewess, Jochebeth Bornstein, and her two children were arrested on a similar charge but were released after questioning by the police.
