The American commitment to Viet Nam’s defense is part of a philosophy that also applies to Israel and other states, Shimon Peres, a member of the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, reported today following a talk with Walt W. Rostow, Special Assistant to President Johnson, Mr. Peres, Israel’s former deputy Defense Minister, met with Mr. Rostow and exchanged views on the world situation and current Middle East problems.
Mr. Rostow referred to Viet Nam and emphasized that the United States would adhere to her commitments, Mr. Peres said he was given the impression by Mr. Rostow that this position applied not only to Viet Nam but also to other states, including Israel, to which the United States has extended commitments, Mr. Peres is general secretary of Rafi, Ben-Gurion’s opposition party, and consequently met with the White House official in a private capacity.
