A nation-wide effort will be made to strengthen Hebrew culture in this country, according to resolutions adopted at the closing session of the Histadruth Ivrith at the Hotel Statler here. The sessions were well attended, many Zionist delegates displaying intense interest in this work.
The resolutions which were adopted at the closing session called upon Hebraists to conduct campaigns in every city of the country for an intense Hebrew education, for the organization of parochial schools and for the introduction of the Hebrew language in public high schools.
It was also decided to establish an academy for Jewish learning, to enlarge upon the activities of the “Hebrew Week,” to form regional organizations to further Hebraic culture and to introduce Hebrew books in public libraries.
The Hebrew language is the flowering of Zionism, declared Louis Lipsky, president of the Zionist Organization of America, addressing the Histadruth Ivrith convention. Mr. Lipsky made a plea for increased Hebraist activities in the United States.
More than two hundred delegates and guests were present at the sessions of the Histadruth Ivrith convention. Among the leaders of this organization, whose aim is to further the knowledge of spoken and written Hebrew among the Jewish youth as well as among their parents in this country, are Abraham Goldberg, Abraham Spicehandler, Menachem Ribalov, Ch. A. Friedland, M. Rudensky, S. B. Maximon and Philip Wattenberg.
