The Women’s Club of nearby Carteret announced today that it had cancelled a scheduled speech by Mrs. Henry D. Strack, whose address at a recent New Jersey State convention of the Daughters of the American Revolution drew sharp criticism for its anti-Jewish character. A spokesman for the Carteret Women’s Club said that the speech was cancelled because of pressure from local groups.
In the DAR affair, Mrs. Locust had charged that Jews imposed “clandestine” Kosher labelling and that this was an example of “how a bold minority can impose its will and even its religious observance upon an apathetic majority. ” Her sentiments were later disowned by officers of both the state and national DAR.
