Israel’s population at the end of 1974 was some 3.4 million, the Central Bureau of Statistics announced, Some 2.9 million were Jews, including 20,000 potential immigrants, most of them holding the status of temporary residents; and about 614,000 were non-Jews. The increase of the non-Jewish population continued to be higher than the Jewish population. The non-Jewish population, most of which is Arab, increased by 3.5 percent. The Jewish population increased by 2 percent.
