Yehudi Menuhin, the world famous Jewish violinist, has been named by Queen Elizabeth II an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, it was announced here today. Because he is an American citizen, Mr. Menuhin, who resides here, will not take the title “Sir” which is reserved for British or Commonwealth citizens. High British titles such as the K. B. E. are normally awarded to foreigners because of their special services to Britain.
