The Yiddish State Theatre, a modernistic playhouse which is subsidized by the Soviet government, is not a financial success, according to a report issued by the Soviet State Control Commission.
The report states that the theatre has incurred a heavy deficit due to lack of patronage on the part of the Moscow Jewish population. It was proposed that the theatre be transferred to a place where there is a larger Jewish population, in the Ukraine or White Russia, where the governments have promised to grant the theatre a subsidy.
