Young Hoodlums Arrested in Philadelphia for Attacking Jews

Almost all members of a young hoodlum gang responsible for the beating up of Jewish youngsters last week in the Olney section of the city, have been rounded up, the police reported today. They will be given a hearing before Judge Hazel Brown, presiding justice of the Municipal Court, who has taken an active interest in the case.

Emil Goldhaber of the Jewish Community Relations Council, charged the attacks were a “planned effort on the extensive scale to ‘get Jews’ wherever they could be found,” but noted the “casual and wanton motivations expressed by a great many of the participants.” He pointed out that, “aside from the few ‘head-men,’ most of the youngsters were unaware of why they were lashing out and at whom.
