The Zionist Organization of America’s executive council has paved the way for Jacques Torczyner to seek a fifth term as ZOA president. The two-term restriction for the presidency was previously twice extended to allow Mr. Torczyner to serve a third and fourth term.
The ZOA Council voted by three to one to recommend to the next national convention, to be held in Los Angeles in August, that while a president who has served four consecutive terms shall not be eligible to succeed himself, “the incumbent president in 1969 shall be eligible to succeed himself for not more than two further one-year terms.” If the convention approves this recommendation, Mr. Torczyner could retain his office for two more terms. Meanwhile, two rabbis. Usher Kirshblum of Long Island and Joseph Shubow of Boston, have announced their candidacy for the ZOA presidency.
