What will Jerusalem look like in 100 years?
That was the question posed by Jerusalem’s Association of Planning and Conservation. Filmmakers and animators around the world then created visual answers and posted them on YouTube. A jury reviewed these creations and named one of them, David Gidali and Itay Gross’s “Secular Quarter #3” (right), the winner of the Jerusalem 2111 Film Competition.
Gidali and Gross’s film, just two minutes long, shows a future version of Jerusalem that looks much like today’s, where secular Jews, Orthodox Jews, and Arabs each live in neatly separated neighborhoods. Only, in the film, these neighborhoods are separated by ten-foot-tall dividing walls. At night, a group of spaceships descends on Jerusalem and removes the walls, and the inhabitants of each neighborhood come face-to-face with each other.
