A number of food and clothing parcels estimated at 100,000, are lying in the Russian Custom Houses. They were sent through private companies by relatives and friends in the United States, but are unclaimed because of the prohibitive custom charges which are many times the value of the paokage.
These charges are not made on parcels forwarded through official and semi-official organizations, and persons desiring to help their friends in Russia are urged to avail themselves of the agencies who are recognized by the authorities here as entitled to carry parcels customs exempt.
