Commencing with Sept. 1st, the beginning of the new school year, 77 Jewish schools in Hungary closed down on account of the withdrawal by the Government of the state subsidy.

The local religious communities are unable, owing to the depreciation of the Hungarian exchange, to maintain the schools without outside help.
