The Sixth Anniversary of the publication of the Balfour Declaration on November 2, 1917, was celebrated this afternoon by leading Zionist workers, the guests at a luncheon at the Commodore Hotel tendered by the American Zion Commonwealth. A cable message to Lord Balfour and a resolution of gratitude to Mr. Lloyd George on the eve of his return to England, were sent off following toasts to both.
In addition to celebrating the Balfour Declaration anniversary, the gathering celebrated dedication by Sir Herbert Samuel of the Colony Balfouria founded by the Zion Commonwealth and named in honor of the author of the Declaration.
Bernard A. Rosenblatt, founder of the Commonwealth presided Speakers included S.J. Weinstein, President of the Organization, Emanuel Neumann, Jacob Fishman, Miss Henrieta Szold, Rabbi Meyer Berlin, Leon Zolotkoff and Judge Aaron J. Levy.
The Cable Message to Lord Balfour is as follows:
AMERICAN ZIONISTS GATHERED TO CELEBRATE SIXTH BALFOUR DAY AND DEDICATION BY SIR HERBERT SAMUEL OR COLONY BALFOURIA IN GALILEE NALED IN YOUR HONOR SEND HEARTFELT GREETINGS TO AUTHOR OF IMMORTAL BALFOUR DECLARATION.
The resolution to be presented to Lloyd George before his departure to England follows:
“This gathering of representatives of American Zionism assembbled to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the Balfour Declaration and the dedication by Sir Herbert Samuel of the Colony Balfouria in Palestine named in honor of Lord Balfour rejoice in the fact that the same day marks the presence in our city of the peerless British statesman who was the head of the government which issued the Balfour Declaration, the Magna Carta of the revived Jewish nation in Palestine. We join with particular pleasure in the enthusiastic welcome of which you are the recipient at the hands of all of our fellow citizens.”
