A memorandum submitted by the Ukrainian Students’ Association in connection with the anti-Jewish attack at the University last week urges that Jews be bared as witnesses from the investigation because the “Talmud permits Jews to perjure themselves”. At the same time students also demand that all East-European Jews be expelled from Hungary and that the Ghetto be restored for the remaining native Jews who should be compelled to wear the yellow patch of the middle ages.
An official investigation into the disturbances reveals that Mathias Tremmal, a Hungarian soldier, was stabbed in self-defense by the Jewish poultry dealer Loebel at the Cafe Lazar in Trummelgasse following a raid upon the cafe by seven drunken soldiers.
There were anti-Jewish disturbances at the University Monday and Tuesday during which three Jewish students were dangerously wounded. One student named Pickler was rescued with difficulty by a Franciscan monk who, holding a raised cross, led Pidder home.
