The sum of $1,245,000 has been contributed by Jews to the fund of $10,000,000 which Harvard University is endeavoring to raise for the extension of its activities. The 228th year at Harvard was wound up brilliantly, with the Jews playing an eminent role academically as well as financially. Among the thirty-one of the class of 1924 to attain a magna cum laude, there were eight Jews. Of the six who attained the highest distinction, summa cum laude, there was one Jew, Joseph Coher, who is also Marshal of the Phi Beta Kappa.
The following Jews contributed to the Harvard Fund: Arthur Lehman, $200,000; Jesse, Herbert and Percy Straus, $300,000. for a new college dormitory to be caried after their father Isidor; Julius Rosenwald, $500,000; Samuel Sachs, $50,000; Arthur Sachs $25,000; Harry Sachs, $10,000; Walter E. Sachs, $10,000; Mortimer Schiff, $50,000; Goldman, Sachs amp; Co., $100,000.
