The Government’s project to increase the cost of passports to foreign countries has resulted in considerable disquietude in immigration circles. The Government proposes to fix the cost of passports at 500 zictes (about $100) instead of 15 as at present. If the Government should succeed in realizing the project, the cost of a passport would almost equal the cost of passage to America. Another effect would be the virtual cessation of the pilgrimages of chalutzim to Palestine because of the expense.
