Much indignation has been aroused among the Jewish population of Iranyos, a town in the province of Satumare, by the order of the Chief District Supervisor, Dariu Pop, forbidding the wearing of “payes” in the schools, and placing a penalty of seventy lei a day for any infraction of this rule.

Supervisor Pop visited each of the local schools and going from class to class forcibly clipped the payes of the Jewish pupils. A deputation of Jews headed by the town Rabbi filed a vigorous protest with the Supervisor, and have also requested the Agudat Israel to protest to the Government.
