Provocator Raises Red Flag on Synagogue but Sexton is Arrested

The sudden appearance of the red flag on the top of the synagogue in the city of Bialystok, was the greatest of surprises to the Jews of the city when came to the synagogue yesterday morning to say their morning prayers. The section (or the shames) immediately went up on the roof and removed the revolutionary flag from the religious building.

He was immediately arrested, however, by the police authorities who suspected him to be also the man who had raised the flag. After a long and severe investigation, the Shames was released.

It is stated that the red flag was raised by a provocator to incite the populace against the Jews.
