The Jewish population in Lithuania has the lowest number of illiterates among all the racial groups in the country, notwithstanding the fact that the public school system was not available for Jews until recently.
This fact came to light when statistics concerning illiteracy in the Republic were made known. According to these figures, the number of illiterates among the Russians in Lithuania is 66%, White Russians 67%, Lithuanians 60%, Poles 55%, Germans 42% and the Jews 32%.
