An explanation of why Jewish unemployed workers in Lithuania are not given an opportunity to participate in the public works was offered in a statement issued by the municipality of Kovno.

The Jewish press in Lithuania recently complained that Jewish unemployed workers are not employed in public works. The municipality states that it frequently offered employment to Jews who refused to accept it because they said they were ashamed of performing manual labor in the streets, such as sewer digging and road building.
