Marquis Reading Receives Honorary Appointment

Marquis of Reading has received the honorary appointment of Captain of Deal Castle. He succeeds Lord Allenby to this post.

Deal Castle was erected by Henry VIII, in 1539, together with the castles of Sandown, Walmer and Sandgate.

The captain of Deal Castle is appointed by the lord warden of the Cinque Ports. There are no emolubents attached to the office.

Marquis of Reading, in accepting this appointment, stated that he would live at the castle as much as possible in the summer. The castle is in the St. Augustine’s division of Kent.
