The establishment of an all-Palestine organization of Jewish lawyers was officially announced at a conference held here. A central committee was elected composed of Dr. Eliash, Dr. Zmoira, Messrs. Auster, Levanon of Jerusalem; Ben Meir and Zeiger of Tel Aviv, and Dr. Weinshal of Haifa.
The Committee was instructed to submit a memorandum to the Government demanding that the rights of the Hebrew language in the Courts should be observed. A decision obliging members of the organization to address the Courts in Hebrew only was passed.
Other resolutions urge that women lawyers should be given the right to appear before the Courts, that the Lawyers’ Organization be given the opportunity to see every draft ordinance prior to publication, that the judgments of the High Court be published in Hebrew and that a fixed honorarium for lawyers be established and approved by the Government.
Distribution of certificates and diplomas to the graduates of the School of Legal Studies took place here with the Chief Justice distributing the diplomas.
Fourteen persons received diplomas, 11 Jews and 3 Arabs. Diplomas are given to those who underwent examinations not only in Palestine but also in part of English Law.
