The performance of the duties of a shochit, killer of cattle for kosher consumption, will be made conditional upon a number of requirements, according to the provisions of a bill introduced in the Warsaw city council by the Veterinary Department.
According to the bill, shochtim will have to obtain diplomas which will be granted only if the candidates can satisfy the authorities that they can meet the following conditions: (a) That they are in possession of authorization by the Jewish religious authorities; (b) that they pass examinations in the Polish language; (c) that they are familiar with the veterinary science; and (d) that they have had experience in slaughtering animals for one year.
