Riga Hears of Anti-jewish Pogroms in White Russia

Alarming but unconfirmed reports from White Russia were received here today.

According to these reports, anti-Jewish pogroms occurred in many villages in White Russia, where many Jews were killed and injured. Shops were plundered and demolished.

The Soviet government has ordered a number of arrests, states the report.

Another report received here deals with the suicide of a Jewish student, Maisel, at Woronjez, Russia. Maisel, is said to have committed suicide because of anti-Semitic persecution at the hands of his professors. An investigation was ordered.
