Arabs Press Demand for Parliamentary Government (Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

The population of the country celebrated a day of thanksgiving today, Monday, December 10, commemorating Palestine’s liberation from the Turkish yoke. By proclamation of the new High Commissioner, Sir John Chancellor, a public holiday was declared. The population was urged to attend services in the houses of worship.

In connection with the anniversary of Jerusalem’s liberation, the Palestine Arab Executive issued a proclamation calling upon the Arab population to “protect their established rights.”

It was also declared that the Arab Executive has decided to submit to the High Commissioner a memorandum demanding a parliamentary government for Palestine. A delegation representing the Executive is expected to call on the new High Commissioner shortly regarding this matter as well as to re-affirm the stand taken by the recent Moslem conference in Jerusalem concerning the Wailing Wall controversy.
