Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt today issued a Rosh Hashanah message to the Jews of New York State, through the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. The message read:

“My very best wishes and congratulations to the Jewish citizens of this State on the occasion of the approaching celebration of Rosh Hashanah. This is one of the oldest holidays recorded in religious history and is observed with the spiritual contemplation so essential to true religious faith. As year after year goes by the contribution of your peoples to science, art industry and public service becomes more and more disinguished.

“I trust that the New Year will be a bright and happy one for you, and that those deep religious principles which have always been observed by the Jewish people will continue to be an inspiration to your younger generations and other religions of American citizenship. I hope that you will continue to enjoy that respect and esteem in our State and Nation which you have so fully deserved.”

Franklin D. Roosevelt.
