A denial of the statement made in the House of Commons by Howard Bury, M. P., that the French government in Syria had protested against carrying out the death sentences on the Palestine Arabs was given the House today by Dr. Drummond Shiels, undersecretary of the colonies. He said that the premier of Iraq had written to the High Commissioner of Palestine on the subject some weeks ago and that his views would be duly considered.
Dr. Shiels declared that the subject of the death sentences had been left entirely to the discretion of the High Commissioners who “would undoubtedly consider whether the execution of the sentences would have an effect on Syria, as Bury suggested that the effect of the executions was worrying these governments.”
