Figures Show Growth of Ort Movement in Germany

The steady growth of the “Ort” movement in Germany during the past few years is shown by statistics which have just been issued. The “Ort” strives to rehabilitate East-European Jewry in industry and agriculture.

In 1926 there were in Germany only 9 local committees of the “Ort”. In 1927 the number grew to 23. In 1928 there were 32 local committees, in 1929 there were 43, and today the number has risen to 54.

The membership of the “Ort” in Germany has risen to 2,000. The monies raised for various “Ort” activities together with the membership fees total 120,721 marks. In 1928 only four Kehillahs in Germany subsidized the “Ort”, whereas in 1929 the number of Kehillahs supporting the “Ort” rose to 18.
