Thirty-six passengers in an auto bus that plunged from the Ilme Bridge, between Erfurt and Weimar, into the Ilme River, were rescued yesterday by four members of the Maccabean Sports Club of Tel Aviv, Palestine, who were returning by motorcycle from the tenth anniversary celebration of the Makkabi-Antwerp section of the World Union of Maccabi.

As they approached the Ilme Bridge they saw the bus falling into the river. Hastily dismounting from their motorcycles the four Maccabeans, fully-clothed, plunged into the water and saved 36 passengers who were struggling in the water. They also pulled out two dead bodies.

The Palestinian members of the Makkabi had traveled from Tel Aviv to Antwerp by motorcycle.
