Negotiations for raising a loan of a hundred thousand dollars in America for the work of the Jewish Agency in Palestine are already in progress, Mr. Emanuel Neuman, the American member of the Zionist World Executive and the Executive of the Jewish Agency, announced to-day at a meeting of the Administrative Committee of the Zionist Organisation of America, which met to hear an address on the situation by Mr. Nahum Sokolov, the President of the Jewish Agency, who has just arrived here to head the campaign in the United States for the Palestine Foundation Fund (Keren Hayesod).

We are in urgent need of raising an immediate loan for the work of the Jewish Agency in Palestine, Mr. Sokolov told the meeting, because otherwise, he said, the position of the Jewish Agency will become untenable, and its relations with the British Government will be seriously affected.

Our urgent task is to raise an additional Keren Hayesod Emergency Fund of one hundred thousand pounds, Mr. Sokolov said in his Rosh Hashanah message to American Jewry. Already the poorest countries which have been crushed by the crisis have started to work faithfully, and I look to you to respond now as in the past in a manner which will open a new era for us and assure the establishment of the Palestine work on a firm basis.

A big national Conference is to be held in New York in about a fortnight (the 17th. inst.) to consider ways and means of raising funds for continuing the Palestine reconstruction on work during 1932. Mr. Sokolov will be the principal speaker, and among the signatories to the invitations which have been sent to every leader of the Jewish Communities in the United States, are Dr. Cyrus Adler, Mr. Felix M. Warburg, Lieut. Governor Herbert Lehman, Mr. James Marshall, Judge Julian Mack, and Rabbi Dr. Stephen S. Wise.
