Jew Elected to First Mayoralty Post in Burma

A Jew, R. A. Raphael, has been elected president of the municipality of Bassein and is the first Jew to be elected to a mayoralty post in Burma.

A native of Burma, M. Raphael is forty-four years old and has served as a Municipal commissioner for the last fifteen years.

He is prominently identified with philanthropic activities of a diverse nature.
