An appeal for moral and material support for the Jews of Germany was issued here today by the Union of Jewish Communities of Italy. Relief committees have been established throughout the country to collect funds for relief purposes. Chief Rabbi Angelo Sacerdoti is heading the appeal.

Giuseppe Recanti has been elected president of the Rome Jewish Community, succeeding Pio Tagliacozzo.

Signor Recanti told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency he would endeavor to stress the importance of Jewish education, to which he has devoted much of his attention for many years during which he established a number of Jewish kindergartens and developed the Jewish community’s school in the Vittorio Palacco. This school now has 450 students and its budget exceeds three hundred thousand lire.
