Maybe the sun isn’t doing too much to warm up the corner where you are, but the fact remains that summer is right around the corner so you had better start pickin’ cotton now. Throughout all of the stores in this fair land cotton is King for this week. From lowly basements to grand penthouses, from step-ins to evening dress the world is wearing cotton. Even brides have deserted the traditional silks and have taken to cotton in the Gladys Parker organdy wedding ensemble in Best’s windows and in Oppenheim & Collins fashion show. It is the answer to the trick of how to make an elegant appearance on a hot afternoon or evening for its pristine freshness will shine whether in a bridal procession, roof garden dining or country club activities.

Van Raalte now gives us panties called Silk Skin, of all things! It is a pure silk bit of sylph-like appearance which fits perfectly. There are no seams to bulge so no matter how form fitting your day or evening dresses are there will be no seam ridges showing through. They are clever and inexpensive, just $2 at any of the stores.

Once upon a time little girls’ frocks were turned out by the family seamstress twice a year, Spring and Autumn, with good hems on all of them to take care of any growing that might go on. Those days are gone forever! Today there is a tremendous amount of sturdy, well styled clothing turned out in the shops with everything from a bib and band for baby to first evening dresses for big sister. B. Altman has a lovely collection in all of the popular materials for warm weather frocks and their play clothes give a nod to modern recreation demands.

Is there a meeting of the moths scheduled to be held in your clothes closet on some sunny day between now and the end of August? It only take a few hours for these scavengers to go through the best of your furs and clothes so why not take the necessary precautions now and save them from their arch-enemy, Mr. Moth. L. J. Fox fur storage guarantees long life and vitality to your furs and you can put them in cold storage vaults now and forget about them until next Fall when they will come out bright and peppy and set for the new season.

What with summer drawing near and the 1934 beach costumes all too revealing and news from Paris that the new silhouette is to revive that of the gay 90’s (20 inch waist line) all femininity is renewing efforts to knock off surplus avoirdupois. Stars of the stage, Fashion models and mere folks to whom excess inches are so much excess baggage are becoming part of a “back-to-the-farm movement” and going up to the Baker-Bernie milk farm in Harrison, N. Y. Miss Baker and Miss Bernice are the sisters of those famous comedians, Phil Baker and Ben Bernie, and their farm is famous as a rendezvous for stage people who are seeking reduction, rejuvenation and a much needed rest. The regimen calls for a liquid milk diet, no exercise, massage and sun baths. Among the many interested visitors between engagements one can always find the original team of Ben Bernie and Phil Baker who are greatly interested in their sisters’ activity.
