Professor Hercali Handelsmann, aged Jewish dean of the history faculty of the University of Warsaw, turned down an offer reelecting him to the post which also includes administrative power in the classics department.

In his place a Christian professor of archeology, Autoniewicz, was elected.

Dr. Handelsmann was subjected in March to a brutal attack by five members of the National Democratic party, Endeks, who sent him to the hospital with serious injuries. The five were students. The university was closed on March 14 and reopened April 10 as a result of this and other disorders provoked by anti-Semitic outrages.
