press here expressed alarm over reports from London stating that the British Quakers organization has undertaken a campaign to bring peace to Palestine through a program seeking the proclamation of a legislative assembly placing of Jewish immigration under the control of an international committee, and restriction of sale of land to Jews.
A Quaker committee visited Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, British Colonial Secretary, who was said to have assured them “I will not permit Palestine to be filled with Jews.” He was also said to have informed the committee that High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope would pursue the policy of granting fewer certificates than asked for by the Jewish Agency for Palestine.
Hebrew papers suggested the immediate dispatch of a Jewish delegation to London to counteract the effect of the Quaker campaign.
