Thanking Jews of other lands for their relief activities in behalf of German Jewry, the following touching Rosh Hashonah appeal was issued by Julius Brodnitz, president of the Central Verein:

“We feel deep sympathy for those whose lives here have been destroyed forever or for a long period, and we hope that the young Jewish generation will be able to help in the work of reconstruction. We know that half a million Jews will remain in the Fatherland and that they will follow life honorably, even if under privations.”

The message concludes on the following note of determination:

“The future is dark, but that is no reason for despair. We German Jews will pursue our duties according to the circumstances dictated.”

Similar messages were issued by Heinrich Stahl, director of the Jewish community, and other Jewish leaders.
