The first conference of Jewish artisan cooperatives in Biro-Bidjan opened today in the city of Biro-Bidjan and reported a production of goods worth 111,860,000 roubles during the first five years of their existence.

It was reported at the opening of the conference that the artisan cooperatives in the Bureya have a current membership of 1,190. Delegates reported that there are very good prospects for artisanship in Biro-Bidjan since numerous products are now being manufactured in this territory from native timber. Many of these products are being shipped to different parts of the Soviet Union for sale.

The convention was greeted by a representative of the local government. Messages of greeting were also received from Moscow from the government committee to settle Jews on land. The conference, conducted entirely in Yiddish, is taking place in the building of the local Jewish theatre.
