A check for $15,150 was given yesterday to Dr. David Lvovitch, vice-president of the World ORT Union, by the People’s ORT Federation at a luncheon at the Hotel Commodore. The Joint Distribution Committee has contributed $10,000 in addition to this sum, it was announced. The entire sum is to be used in furthering the activities of the ORT throughout the world.

The luncheon was given in honor of Dr. Lvovitch on the eve of his departure to Europe; Dr. Henry Moskowitz, chairman of the board of directors of the ORT Federation, who has returned from a lengthy tour of Europe and Palestine, and Louis B. Boudin, acting chairman, who will leave for Russia shortly.

Dr. Moskowitz, speaking first, expressed great admiration for the achievements in Palestine, especially in the agricultural field.

Mrs. Florence R. Dolewitz, president of the Women’s ORT, announced receipt of a letter from Mrs. Albert Einstein accepting the honorary chairmanship of the Women’s ORT of America.

Mr. Boudin reviewed the deplorable economic status of European Jewry and announced that Dr. Lvovitch will return to this country in September to start a national $250,000 ORT campaign.

Dr. Lvovitch, in his address, thanked the People’s ORT Federation and the J.D.C. for their understanding of the problems of European Jewry. Emphasizing the importance of the ORT, he declared that “it is not a charity organization, but a movement to revolutionize the economic and spiritual status of Jewry.”
