The German Gestapo (secret State police) has taken over control of the political police here. Herr von Gruetzner, one of the assistants of Heinrich Himmler, Gestapo chief, has been named head of the Free City political police.

Despite Nazi domination over Danzig’s political affairs, a memorandum protesting recent decrees of Dr. Arthur Karl Greiser, head of the Nazi-controlled Senate, aimed at suppressing opposition groups, was presented to Sean Lester, League of Nations High Commissioner for the Free City. The memorandum was signed by opposition parties.

Fearing arrest and persecution by the Gestapo, a number of members of groups opposed to the Nazis have fled to nearby Gydnia, which is on Polish soil.
