Enemy planes twice flew over Haifa Friday night, the first time dropping bombs. There were no casualties and only insignificant damage. Tel Aviv had two alerts during the night.

Meanwhile, the death tell in Thursday morning’s air raid on Tel Aviv reached 14 when Joseph Bronstein, 75, succumbed to injuries received when a home for aged invalids in the northern part of the city was hit. Four persons had been killed at the same point.

At a conference of the Mapai (Zionist labor party) held in Tel Aviv during the air-raids, David Ben Gurion called for intensified army recruiting with faith that Zionist aspirations would be fulfilled only by a victory of British democracy. Goldie Myerson eulogized the victims of the raids.

It is reported here that 500 Sephardic inhabitants remain in the Syrian town of Siden. There is a well-organized community, several Alliance Israelite schools and charity institutions. Most of the Jews are merchants and craftsmen.
