A nationwide educational campaign financed by $14,000,000 in WPA funds, designed to prepare aliens in America for the rights and duties of citizenship, was announced today by the Immigration and Naturalization service of the Justice Department.
A National Advisory Council of four members from the Justice department and the WPA and one member at large who will act as chairman will supervise the project.
“The program”, the Justice department said, “will supplement and amplify citizenship educational projects now in operation in most states and will set up similar projects in states where such facilities are not yet available. The Program contemplates particular emphasis on citizenship education in areas where a heavy alien population indicates special need, by making use of the immigration and naturalization service field organization and material from the Alien Registration Division”.
