The 150 Polish-Jewish refugees who were admitted to the British West Indian island of Jamaica two months ago, today appealed to Jewish groups here to facilitate their emigration to permanent settlements abroad.
In a cable to Dr. Ignacy Schwartzbart, Jewish member of the Polish National Council, the refugees reported that the Jamaica authorities do not consider them immigrants but evacuees for the duration of the war, and consequently they are not allowed to engage in any kind of work and are housed in a special camp. They are not allowed to move freely outside the camp after 10PM. Several cases of fever have broken out among the refugees, the cable also reported.
