The Mexican Government, acting in accordance with its promise to establish a “free port” for refugees from Europe, has sent instructions to its Consul General in Switzerland directing him to issue documents to 400 Jews residing in Hungary permitting them to enter Mexico as war refugees. The selection of the 400 Hungarian Jews is being left to the discretion of Jewish organizations in Switzerland.
The instructions of the Mexican Government emphasize that those Jews selected will be exempted from giving guarantees of repatriation and of being able to pay taxes. The Mexican Consul General is directed to advise them that all they will be asked to do is to register with the authorities within thirty days after landing in Mexico.
