Sharett Arrives in Uruguay; Given Military Salute on Landing

Israel Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett was given a military reception here last night when he arrived from Buenos Aires on the third leg of his South American goodwill tour. The Israeli Minister was met at the port by Uruguayan Foreign Minister J. Pittaluga and a company of sailors who gave the Israeli leader a military salute. More than 2,000 Jews cheered his arrival at the port.

Conferring later with Dr. Pittaluga at the Foreign Ministry. Mr. Sharett told the Uruguayan Minister that Israel was particularly happy over the fact that Uruguay, a country without material interests in the Jewish State, had been of such great assistance in the fight to establish the state, and afterwards.

At a press conference, Mr. Sharett said that he was happy to meet the friendly people and government of Uruguay and to be able to express his people’s gratitude for the aid given his country in the UN. He emphasized that the role played by the Uruguayan delegate in the UN at the time of the establishment of Israel would go down in history.
