Prime Minister Winston Churchill has exonerated Bermuda’s Mid-Ocean Club of charges of anti-Jewish discrimination to the satisfaction-of the White House, Presidential Press Secretary James Haggerty indicated today in response to a question about the reported barring of Jews from the hotel where the forthcoming Big Three conference will be held.
Mr. Haggerty quoted Mr. Churchill as denying the existence of prejudice and said the White House therefore had nothing to say on the question of discrimination at the site suggested by President Eisenhower. However, some members of the White House Correspondent’ Association have expressed concern lest the pattern of religious and racial discrimination at other Bermuda hotels embarrass colleagues who are members of minority groups.
