The three-day nation-wide strike of Israel salaried physicians working for the government and the national institutions ended today, but the strikers warned that if a satisfactory agreement is not reached within ten days they will call a longer stoppage.
Meanwhile, unions representing attorneys and educators employed by the government or national institutions on a salary basis have also demanded increases. Both unions have threatened strikes if their demands are not met.
Representatives of the Israel Medical Association, which called the doctors’ strike, told newsmen tonight that their members were embittered and had decided to keep up their fight until their demands were met. The doctors’ spokesmen pointed out that doctors should at least get as much pay as magistrates. The same claim was advanced by the lawyers union which noted that the salary of the Attorney General was lower than that of a magistrate.
