Dr. Salo W. Baron, internationally known historian of Jewish life and professor of Jewish History at Columbia University, was honored tonight at a testimonial dinner celebrating his 60th birthday sponsored by the Conference on Jewish Social Studies at the Hotel Commodore. More than 250 educators, rabbis and sociologists attended the affair.
In honor of the occasion, a volume of scholarly works on Jewish history and social sciences was presented to Professor Baron. The essays were written specially by 25 of his former students, who now are either teachers at major American universities or rabbis of various congregations throughout the country. Speakers at the dinner included Dr. Louis Finkelstein, president of the Jewish Theological Seminary; Semah Cecil Hyman, Consul General of Israel; Dr. Koppel S. Pinson, professor of history at Queens College; and Dr. Joseph L. Blau, professor of philosophy at Columbia University.
