The 100th anniversary of the birth of Louis Marshall was commemorated here yesterday when the Jewish Theological Seminary of America named its quadrangle in honor of the late Mr. Marshall. The ceremonies marked the opening of the Seminary’s 70th academic year.

Mr. Marshall was chairman of the Seminary’s board of directors for the last 25 years of his life. A distinguished lawyer and at one time president of the American Jewish Committee, Mr. Marshall was active in virtually every major Jewish cause.

Other high points at the convocation ceremonies yesterday included the award of the Seminary’s first Louis Marshall Memorial Medal to Samuel Friedland for establishing educational scholarships, and the presentation of citations to some 200 presidents and former presidents of congregations throughout the country for their services to Conservatism.
