Forty-five prominent citizens of Winnipeg, including nine Jews, have issued a public statement opposing government financial aid to private schools. The statement declares that the signers oppose state aid to private and parochial schools, as recommended by a Royal Commission report two years ago, and calls upon the Government “to refuse to enact legislation that would lead to such aid.”

A plaque, marking the bicentenary of Jewish settlement in Canada was today affixed in the corridor of the Manitoba Provincial legislature building here. Lieut. Governor Errick Willis unveiled the plaque in ceremonies attended by Provincial officials and Jewish communal leaders.
